Abe Baily

Abraham Baily Abe Baily was born in Washington, D.C. in 1941. He spent preschool years in nearby Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. In 1947, his family moved to Anchorage, Alaska. In 1954, the family moved to Palo Alto, California where Abe completed junior high school and high school, participating on football, wrestling, and debate teams. Throughout high school and college, he was employed during the summers: twice in a pet hospital, traveling back to Alaska to work at a lumberyard and for a salmon cannery, and in general construction and retail sales. College years in the San Francisco Bay Area ended with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Menlo College in 1964. He moved to Los Angeles where he attended the UCLA School of Law and earned a J.D. Degree in 1967. During law school, Abe worked part-time in ASUCLA's Student Programs and Activities Office. The part-time work evolved into 37 years of university administration; 32 of those years at California State University, Chico as Assistant Dean of Students, Dean for Student Affairs, Educational Opportunity Program Director, Director of University Outreach Programs, Student Affairs Development Officer, Athletics Development Director, and Athletics Marketing Director. Abe has consulted for a federal agency (ACTION-Peace Corps, VISTA, National Student Volunteer Program & Service Learning Program; Abe was a training consultant and journal author for the training of student volunteer directors, managers, & leaders). He was on the national Professional Development and Standards committee for the National Assoc. of Student Personnel Administrators. He is a past President of the Greater Chico Chamber of Commerce, and is a founding Board Member and Past President of the Boys & Girls Club of Chico. He is currently Immediate Past President of the Board of Directors of Work Training Center. Abe and his wife have four children and four grandchildren. Abe enjoys reading, bicycling, public speaking, golf, good coffee, riding his BMW 1200RC motorcycle, and listening to good music in most categories.
