How You Can Help
Community support has always been essential to the operation of WTC services. There are many ways those who are interested can contribute to our efforts. The following are suggestions for becoming involved. As a non-profit organization, gifts to WTC are tax deductible.
Join the Friends of WTC.
Contribute a cash gift. Tax deductible at the time of the gift. May be designated for a specific program or purpose, or to the Endowment Fund.
Make a gift of property or other assets. By donating an asset, WTC obtains the full value of the gift. The donor does not usually have to pay taxes on capital gains, and can gain a substantial current tax deduction.
Set up a charitable trust to provide income for your (and your spouse’s) life. Assets can be donated at full value, with a variety of predictable lifetime income producing choices. A substantial current deduction can usually provide tax advantages. After the income beneficiary(s) are gone, the remaining assets benefit WTC.
Donate your home to WTC. You can continue to live in your home for the remainder of your life and can even create lifetime income through a charitable reverse mortgage.
Provide memorial contributions to honor family or friends. Many people prefer to give to their favorite charity or one designated by the family. Acknowledgment is provided by WTC to the designated family.
Name WTC in your will. Any manner of property can be made as a bequest; cash, securities, personal property, real estate, life insurance, etc. WTC should be named specifically, either in the body of the will or as a codicil to an existing will. Remember, without a written will, your intentions cannot be carried out.
Contribute to the WTC endowment fund. This permanent collection of contributions is invested for long term growth, the income of which is available to benefit WTC in perpetuity. Endowment funds are held by North Valley Community Foundation.
Attend a WTC special event. The annual Turkey Dinner has been held since 1955, usually on the second Thursday in November. Prepared and served by volunteers, this all-you-can-eat affair is the oldest and largest dinner in Butte County. The Taste of the Foothills Tour in the spring is an opportunity to visit local producers of fine wines and other products. The annual 4th of July Celebration is Chico’s community gathering and a benefit for Do It Leisure, a division of WTC.
Donate household goods. WTC accepts goods that can be put to use in WTC programs or are of sufficient value to benefit WTC. WTC does not have programs that repair items and does not operate a thrift store to re-sell household goods. Call to inquire if an item can be used by WTC. Current needs include the following:
Volunteer your time and skills. There are a wide variety of programs and services at WTC that can benefit from volunteers. You can work directly with participants or on projects that benefit WTC in other ways. Give us a call and see how you can help.
