DEFINITION: The Sewing Crafts Volunteer Aide will assist the Instructional staff by teaching classes and creative sewing related activities that enhance the skills and abilities of the DCS clients.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assists clients to create and design worthwhile personal and group sewing or similar crafts projects. These activities can include embroidery, crochet, quilting, hand stitching, paper crafts, or use of other materials. Assesses client training needs and skill deficits; assists clients and DCS staff to develop projects that address individual skill development needs. Maintains an inventory of materials, tools, and other project resources. Contacts other WTC production areas as well as outside sources to secure donations. Prepares purchase orders, as needed, and submits to Production Coordinator. Works closely with DCS instructors and Rehab Counselor in assisting clients to reach their individual goals and objectives. Keeps instructors, Production Coordinator, and DCS Rehab Counselor promptly and fully informed of client needs, behavioral issues, or other matters requiring their attention.
ADDITIONAL DUTIES:
Presents a uniformly positive image of WTC programs and services during all informal community contacts as well as during regular workday activities. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by the Production Coordinator, Director of Vocational Services, or Executive Director.

Employee is regularly required to stand; walk; bend; lift; use hands; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; and speak and listen. The employee is occasionally required to sit for extended periods of time. Employee may be required to safely lift up to a maximum of 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance and close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required to successfully perform this job.
REQUIRE:
The ability to work as a team member. The ability to represent Work Training Center in a positive manner. Adherence to established dress standards. Knowledge of, and talent for, sewing crafts and related craft activities.
PREFER:
Experience working with children and/or adults in a training or instructional capacity. It is recommended that volunteers be tested and inoculated for Hepatitis B.
