DEFINITION:
The Substitute Instructor is instrumental in implementing programs and activities for persons receiving services at Joe McGie Center, a program of the Work Training Center.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Supervises and teaches persons receiving services in assigned classroom activities. Implements individual behavior treatment plans for persons receiving services. Participates in assessment and on-going evaluation of objectives for persons receiving services. Assists persons receiving services with toileting, changing, and personal care. Works closely with instructors in assisting persons receiving services to reach goals and individualized objectives. Maintains required records and reports in an accurate and timely manner. Assists in the coordination and participates in community-based activities. Exercises independent judgement on a continual basis within guidelines, working towards achievement of goals and objectives for persons receiving services. Keeps immediate supervisor promptly and fully informed of all problems or unusual matters of significance and takes prompt, corrective action where necessary. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or requested.

Employee is regularly required to stand, walk, bend, lift, use hands, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, speak and listen. The employee is occasionally required to sit for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus. Employee must be able to lift and transfer persons being served from the wheelchair to changing table and provide physical assistance as necessary in the performance of the job.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Require:
Experience and/or training, beyond the high school level, in human services or a related field, providing direct services to persons receiving services who are developmentally disabled. The ability to work as a team member. The ability to represent the Joe McGie Center in a positive manner. A pre-employment physical examination, negative TB screening, and fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice on file as a condition of continued employment. Ability and willingness to work overtime as required. Adherence to established dress standards.
PREFER:
Current First Aid and CPR certificate. Required to maintain current certification as a condition of continued employment. Experience in positive intervention and ability to implement non-aversive positive behavior management techniques. It is recommended that staff be tested and inoculated for Hepatitis B.
COMPENSATION:
Grade Level IV • On-call position
Wage: $8.24- $12.01/hour • Non-benefited position
Pay levels for new employees, whose qualifications exceed the minimum job requirements, may be started at a higher rate than the bottom figure listed for the salary range.
