This program provides a creative outlet and small business experience for individuals to develop their artistic skills, independent living, communication and public social skills. Additionally, Made in Paradise operates a gift shop to display and sell products created in the program’s classes, as well as from other WTC programs.
A wide variety of art classes take place throughout the program day—ceramics, painting/drawing and fine art, fabric arts, stained glass, glass art, jewelry making, mosaic, etc. The program also develops the skills of running a small business, including managing inventory, pricing, handling money, customer relations, displaying products, cleaning and maintaining the gift shop, and work area, etc. The participants are also involved in community activities which include visiting art galleries, museums and art supply stores to gather inspiration and supplies.
Services are provided on a one staff to four participant ratio. Made in Paradise serves persons with developmental disabilities who demonstrate a desire to be an artist and run a small business; are able to care for personal needs throughout the program day, but may need some assistance with transfers from wheelchair; are able to attend regularly with minimal support in the areas of behavioral issues, personal and/or nursing care; and are at least 18 years of age.
